Youth of the Month

Purpose:   To profile up to three youths each month on what they are doing for/with their Agricultural Society.  This is a way to showcase youth in action at our agricultural society events and hopefully encourage other youth to get involved in their agricultural society.

Note:  This program is completely separate from the scholarship program and Ambassador Program.

The Program:

Agricultural Societies complete a nomination form indicating the name and accomplishments of the youth along with their photo and a photo of them in action.   Each month, the Youth Committee will select up to three youth profiles to highlight through the OAAS social media.

In December of 2024, a random draw of the profiled youth will take place with 3 winners selected to win a registration at the 2025 convention.

We will gather feedback from the convention attendees on their experiences at Convention 2025 and what they learned.

Who Would Qualify:  Any youth under 21 years old, as of January 1st, who is a member of an agricultural society.

Goals of the “Youth of the Month” Program:

  • Highlight accomplished youth throughout the year on the OAAS social media site(s)
  • Encourage other youth to get involved in agricultural societies
  • Share ideas about what youth can do at agricultural society events
  • Potentially getting youth involved in presentations at convention or to serve as Ad-Hoc members on committees
  • Showcase the great things happening around our province

How it would work:

  • Nominations would be open from the 1st to the 10th of each month June to November
  • The nomination form can be found on the OAAS website, as well as the specific email that it must be sent to: youth@oaasfairs.com

The Youth Committee will review applications and select up to three youths to highlight through social media by the 20th of each month.

  • In December there will be a random draw of the highlighted youth to win a convention registration and room.  There will be three of these draws
  • A chaperone will have to accompany the winner if, under the age of 18, it is up to the Agricultural Society to pay the chaperone registration
  • The room for the winner will be a double occupancy room in the event that a chaperone has to accompany them.
  • OAAS Fair Passes for 2025 will be given to all highlighted Youth of the Month recipients
