Instructor Apprenticeship Exemption Form

IMPORTANT: the request must be submitted online a minimum of 2 weeks prior to the date of the apprenticeship – no allowances for late forms. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.

Apprenticing with a non-OAAS Certified Instructor Exemption

The OAAS expectation is that Instructor apprenticeships will be completed with an OAAS Certified Instructor. The OAAS realizes that we do not have sufficient OAAS Certified Instructors within each Category and a district may need to engage a Subject Matter Expert (SME) to instruct the subject matter material. Because of this, the OAAS may allow an Apprentice Instructor to apprentice with a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for that Category.

An exemption may be allowed provided the following 4 criteria have been met:

  1. The person has at least 5 years experience, as an OAAS Certified Judge in the requested Category.
  2. There is an OAAS Certified Instructor supervising the Judging School.
  3. The request was submitted on time.
  4. The OAAS office has approved the request.

A maximum of 1 apprenticeship with a qualified non-OAAS Certified Instructor per Category would be allowed.
