Options:
1: Apprenticing Before Attending OAAS Judging School for Category Exemption
Option 1: Apprenticing at Fair before Attending the OAAS Judging School for the Category Exemption
The OAAS requirement is that a person must attend an OAAS judging school for a specific Category before apprenticing at a fair for that Category. The OAAS may allow an exemption provided the following four criteria have been met:
- The person is already an OAAS-certified judge in a different Category.
- They are apprenticing with an OAAS-certified judge for that Category.
- The person has reviewed the OAAS Judging Standards for that Category.
- The OAAS office has approved the request.
A maximum of 1 apprenticeship before attending the Judging School for that Category would be allowed.

Option 1 Fillable Form:
2: Apprenticing with a Non-OAAS Certified Judge Exemption
Option 2: Apprenticing with a Non-OAAS Certified Judge Exemption
The OAAS expectation is that apprenticeships will be completed with an OAAS-certified judge. The OAAS realizes that we do not have sufficient OAAS Certified Judges to ensure that apprenticing with an OAAS Certified Judge will be always possible. The OAAS may allow an exemption provided the following three criteria have been met:
- The person has completed at least one OAAS Judging School for this Category.
- The request was submitted on time.
- The OAAS office has approved the request.
A maximum of one apprenticeship with a qualified non-OAAS Certified Judge per Category would be allowed, provided the request was submitted on time and the OAAS office has approved it.
